L'Oreal's Lash Ad Scandal

A L'Oreal commercial, starring spokesperson Penelope Cruz, has been pulled for breaking industry rules.

The Advertsing Standards Authority explained that the advert for Telescopic Mascara, which claims to make lashes "up to 60 percent longer" was misleading as Penelope was wearing false lashes in the advert and no disclaimer was put up saying so. "In the absence of a disclaimer stating that Penelope Cruz was wearing some individual false lashes added to her natural lashes... the ads could mislead".

L'Oreal have said in reply it was "common industry practice" to use false lashes but they will "fully comply" with the ASA's new requirements for future advertising campaigns.
